With Easter just around the corner, let’s embark on a creative journey using a unique canvas – cotton rope baskets! In today’s tutorial, I’ll show you how to apply and embellish your basket with napkin art. Whether you’re looking to create a charming Easter basket, enhance your craft room storage, assemble thoughtful gift baskets, or spruce up your home decor, this versatile project offers a range of possibilities.
Apply Napkin Art to a Cotton Rope Basket
I am using an adorable spring napkin with an Easter scene, so I will cut a square of my napkin and then cut around the scene to get rid of that excess napkin. Separate the plys until you just have that top layer of napkin art.
Use a paintbrush to apply a coat of Mod Podge Matte to the front of your basket. Make sure you are loading up your brush and swirling the Mod Podge around so that you get into every nook and cranny of this surface.
Place your napkin on top and gently pat it on to help it conform to the cotton rope. Use a clean chip brush and pounce it onto your napkin. Check your edges and corners and add extra Mod Podge if you need to. Dry with a heat tool then add another coat of Mod Podge Matte to seal your art. Dry one more time.
Embellish Your Cotton Rope Basket
Next, I will use Stickles – Crystal to add some sparkle to my watering can and Easter eggs. I’m just using the tip of the bottle to apply, but you could use a paintbrush if you would like. Dry with a heat tool.
Finally, I’ll create a ribbon bow and tie that onto my basket handle. You could add a flower or button in the center. I have some cute eggs that I will hot glue to the center of my bow in a cluster. I’ll also add Stickles to these eggs as well for extra sparkle!
This is such a fun and unique surface that you can use to napkinize! Think of other cotton rope things you can add napkin art to, such as handbags, coasters, placemats, and more. The versatility of this technique opens up a range of creative possibilities to personalize everyday items and enhance your crafting projects.
