Supply List:

I’m sharing how to transform plain melamine plates into stunning decorative pieces using a summery napkin adorned with a charming honey jar and bees. Through the magic of decoupage, you’ll learn how to apply the napkin art seamlessly, and we’ll add some fun, eye-catching touches with Glossy Accents and Stickles. This plate is not food-safe but it makes a perfect decorative item to display in your kitchen, an easel, or a plate rack.

Applying Napkin Art to Melamine Plates

I love the background on this particular napkin, so I will be applying the entire napkin to my plate. I actually want this to look like a napkin on a plate! Cut the square napkin image out and then separate the plys until you just have the top layer of napkin art.

For this project, I’m going to be using Mod Podge Hard Coat, which is great for use on non-porous surfaces (plastic, glass, metal, etc!) Add a coat of Mod Podge Hard Coat onto your plate, lay your napkin art on top, and smooth it down with a piece of plastic wrap. Dry with a heat tool, add a second coat of Mod Podge to seal your napkin, and dry again.

Please note: The plate I am making today is not food-safe! If you would like to make your plate food-safe, you could apply a coat of Art Resin. (Just follow the directions on the bottle!)

Adding Details to Your Melamine Plate

We are going to add Glossy Accents to our napkin art, which is a product that I love to use in my crafts. If you’ve never used it before, it comes out milky, but it hardens and dries crystal clear. This gives a really fun glossy and wet look to your projects!

On my plate, I want my honey to look wet and sweet, so I’m going to apply Glossy Accents to the honey on my napkin art and my glass jar. Make sure you give this plenty of time to dry flat.

Finally, I’ll use Stickles – Diamond to add sparkle to my bees’ wings, sliced lemons, flower centers, the jar label, and the fabric topping the jar.

With these simple steps, you can transform plain melamine plates into beautiful, decorative pieces that bring a touch of summer to your home. Whether displayed in your kitchen or on an easel, this blue and yellow honey bee-themed plate is sure to impress!
