Gingerbread Hoop Ornament

Supply List:

We are making a simple and fun Gingerbread Hoop Ornament that will look so cute hanging on your tree this year! We have a kit that includes almost everything you will need to create this little ornament to make this project even easier. It’s also super giftable! If you’re someone who likes to gift baked goods to neighbors or loved ones, this would also look fantastic hanging from your packaging as a little extra treat.

Creating Your Gingerbread Face

Take your embroidery hoop and loosen the screw until you have your two rings. You will also have one piece of white felt and one piece of brown fabric, which you will layer together. Place them in between the rings and screw your hoop back together. Take your scissors and trim off the excess. In the space where you have some felt sticking up under the screw, just put a dab of hot glue and secure that.

If you are worried about your fabric staying secure, you can use a precision tip of your hot glue gun and add hot glue around your hoop. Let it sit and then use your finger to spread it. That helps your fabric stiffen up and stay secure.

We are going to start with the screw pointing down (our gingerbread’s bow will cover that area up!). Take your white Ric Rac and we will apply it to the top and bottom of the face. Cut your Ric Rac in half, add some dots of hot glue, and secure them to the face. Trim the excess.

You will have a piece of pink felt in your kit. Use the buttons in your kit as a template to cut out two circles. You will also have a little piece of red and white twine, which will be the smile. Glue the pink felt circles to the ends of the twine and then hot glue it to your gingerbread face.

At this point, you can stitch the black button eyes on or you can simply hot glue them on. I used a white glaze pen to draw on some stitch marks.

Adding Embellishments to the Gingerbread Ornament

In your kit, you will have a red and white checked ribbon and some green and white twine. Create a tribute ribbon shape with your large red and white checked ribbon, scrunch it up, and wrap the twine around the middle to make an easy bow. I’ll also cut a flag end on my ribbon and tie the twine in a bow. Hot glue your bow to the bottom wood and screw area of your hoop.

You will also have a little plastic peppermint in your kit. Cut off the little ornament hanger part and hot glue it to the center of your bow. You will also have some gumdrops that have a little gold hanger. Add some hot glue to the end of your twine, let it sit for a moment, and twist it so that the end is like a needle can thread through those gumdrops. Tie on the gum drops and make a knot. Hot glue the greenery sprig and berries to the top of your gingerbread head and also hot glue the ornament holder to the back.

At this point, you could add some sparkle to your ornament with Stickles. I am going to add some to my white Ric Rac, the cheeks, the peppermint on my bow, and the peppermint on the ornament holder.

Such a quick, easy, and cute holiday project, y’all! This whole thing was put together with hot glue and only took about 30 minutes to make. Whether you consider yourself a seasoned crafter or a beginner crafter, this is a really easy project for all skill levels!
