If you’ve ever found yourself drowning in a sea of ribbons, unsure of what you have and struggling with limited space, I’ve got a game-changing solution for you. By revamping your ribbon collection using my tried-and-true method, you’ll not only save valuable space but also gain a clear and organized view of your creative inventory. I have also created a fun document for you on my process, which you can download HERE!
Here is the basic process that I use to organize my ribbons:
- Gather it all up. The first step in organizing your ribbon stash it to gather it all up. If you have your ribbon in different bins, drawers, or bags, you will want to pull it all out so you can see what you actually have.
- Separate the seasonal. Now, let’s talk about those themed or seasonal items – the Santas, hearts, or seashells. Create themed baskets or cards for these items, making it easy to find the perfect ribbon for your holiday or project. Don’t forget to cut separate cards for larger seasonal ribbons, stored in dedicated totes for easy retrieval.
- Bye bye, spools! Consider recycling, donating, or responsibly discarding them. They’re hogging unnecessary space in your storage, and it’s time to free up that room.
- Bag by color family. Organize your ribbons by color family. Gather anything in the red family and group it together, and do the same for other color families. This includes lace, trim, and more. For multicolored ribbons, create a separate bag for them.
- Wrap, card, store. The final step – wrap your ribbons onto cards and store them in baskets, photo boxes, shoe boxes, or similar containers. I personally love using comic book backers for the cards; their sturdiness and weight make them perfect for the job. Secure your ribbons with a piece of washi tape, wrap them around the card, and enjoy your newly organized ribbons!
Picture this – one bin, 75 spools. That’s the kind of space efficiency you can achieve by adopting my ribbon revamping technique. Say goodbye to cluttered shelves and drawers, it’s time to create a system that works for you.
Sorting your ribbons into color families is not only therapeutic but also incredibly practical. By wrapping each ribbon around a card, you create a visual catalog that allows you to see your entire collection at a glance. It’s not just about organization, it’s about understanding your creative tendencies and shopping habits, highlighting the colors or themes you tend to gravitate towards. It also sheds light on the different sizes you may have accumulated. For instance, you might realize you’ve got plenty of wide ribbons but not so many thin ones.
As you go through this process, consider what you truly need. If certain ribbons don’t align with your current projects or color preferences, it might be time to bless someone else with them. Donations or swaps with fellow crafters can be a wonderful way to share the creative wealth.
So, are you ready to revamp your ribbon collection and reclaim your crafting space? It’s time to turn those cards, sort those colors, and rediscover the joy of a well-organized creative space.
